The Van Jets
BIOGRAPHY
The coastal waves spew forth four of its descendants, including the constantly bickeringpair of Verschaeve brothers. In the summer of 2003 this foursome ended up in a dampbasement in Ghent where, under Johnny’s reign of terror, the first Van Jets songs tookshape. With their fiery yet melodic glamrock ‘n roll (a genre that’s yet to be discovered)they would go on to set fire to the stages of a number of youth centres and clubs. Their crusade started in sweaty café's but their fifth (!) already concert brought these rookies to the holy ground of the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels (kind of the most important venue in Belgium), waving a fat check after winning the Humo’s Rock Rally 2004.
After this triumph they played at Belgium’s important festivals such as Dour and Leffingeleuren and in 2005 they were ready to enter the studio with producer Frank Duchêne (formerly Hooverphonic) and record their first real fact: the EP ‘Belvédère Records presents The Van Jets’. This EP includes the hitsingle ‘Ricochet’: the ideal starting point for a triumphant tour through the smaller Flemish stages. In November 2005 they decided to take a break and retreat for a while in order to work on their first full-album. Pascal Deweze (Sukilove, Metal Molly, Mauro Pawlowski) extended a helping hand as producer, and the entire album was finished six months later, mixed by Aaron Prellwitz (Death Cab for Cutie, John Vanderslice). Right from the start, the intentions of The Van Jets are made crystal clear: dirty, raw rock ‘n’ roll with enough attention for melody and songs. The band proves they have enough guts to experiment and incorporate glam, industrial, pop and blues elements in their songs.
Serving as a raunchy appetizer they served up the single ‘Electric Soldiers’, the dirtiest radio single in ages, and Studio Brussel, the National radio, tasted it well! The same-titled album was released at the beginning of February 2007 on the world-renowned majorlabel Belvédère Records. Three other singles followed, so The Van Jets were for almost a year everywhere in the FM universe in Belgium! The band kind of played in every club and on every festival, also the biggest like Rock Werchter (main stage) and Pukkelpop, and a clubtour in Holland, followed by a small tour with The Horror The Horror (SE) in May in Austria and Germany. The Van Jets are currently preparing a new album which will be released internationally beginning 2010!
